From Monday 22 June to Friday 3 July 2026, the Net Zero Energy Project contractor, Vital Energi, will be carrying out minor leak repairs to the campus district heating pipework.

Work will take place at three locations:

• To the west of Lancaster Square on North Campus

• Between Pendle College residences, House 24 Winewall and House 27 Crowtrees on Alexandra Park

• The corner of Barker House Avenue to the rear of Barker House Farm on Alexandra Park

Minor excavations will be carried out to access and repair the buried pipework, causing some localised disruption, but access routes and deliveries will not be affected. The works are expected to take approximately three to four days to complete at each location.

From Monday 6 July until late August 2026, the Net Zero Energy Project contractor, Vital Energi, will be carrying out works to enclose the newly installed external district heating pipework and valves on the façade of buildings. Work will take place at:

• Bowland Main
• Cartmel College
• County College, including County Field and County South
• Furness College
• Fylde College
• Graduate College
• Grizedale College

How will this work affect you?

• Vital Energi contractors will be working outside each building to install protective covers around the pipework and valves.

How will this work affect you?

During the scaffolding works:

• Seven parking spaces will be temporarily closed on the morning of 6 July for the delivery of scaffolding.
• The on the perimeter roadside of House 94 Mallow and the to the north of House 81 Zostera will be fenced off and used as scaffolding laydown areas.
• Pedestrian routes will remain open and access to all building entrances will be maintained.
• Scaffolding will remain in place until all works are complete and will be dismantled by the end of August.
• Work will take place after 10am on Monday 6 July to allow for departures and will then revert to contracted hours 8am – 6pm (Monday to Friday) and will be noisy at times. No work will take place during graduation week.

During the external and internal works:

• Hot water will be turned off at 8.30am on day one and is expected to remain off until the work is completed on day three. The cold water supply will not be affected in occupied accommodation.
• Vital Energi contractors will be accessing the communal stairwells but won’t need access to any student flats.

From Friday 19 June to late August 2026, the Net Zero Energy Project contractor, Vital Energi, will be working on the installation of external district heating pipework to the southwest façade of the County Main building.

• Scaffolding will be erected at the and on the roof of the building to allow the new pipework to be installed and connected to the rooftop flats. Vital Energi contractors will be working at height outside the kitchen windows of the accommodation on C and D Floors, and it is advised that blinds are left closed for privacy.

• The pedestrian area to the east of the building will be closed off while high level access machinery and a temporary staircase are in place to enable the contractor to safely deliver scaffolding materials to roof level.

• The contractors may use the inside the building very occasionally but won't need access to any student flats. Once the scaffold staircase to the east of the building is erected, this will negate the need to access the building internally.

• Access will be closed along the from County Avenue into Lancaster Square throughout the works. An accessible diversion route and signage will be in place.

• Seven parking spaces on the will be fenced off for a storage area. The spaces will reopen from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July for Graduation and will close again until the work is completed. The electric vehicle parking will remain open throughout the work.

• Access to the County South kitchens, bin stores and cycle parking will remain open from County Avenue.

How will this work affect you?

During the remaining external pipework installation:

• Scaffolding will be erected at one side of each building to allow the new pipework to be installed and connected into the building.
• Some pedestrian access routes in the local area will be closed. Diversion signage will be in place and building entrances will be maintained at all times.

During the replacement of the boilers in kitchens:

• Up to three Vital Energi contractors will require access through the communal areas within student flats. There may be some localised disruption while deliveries take place.
• Access in and out of all accommodation will be maintained.
• Hot water will be turned off at 8.30am on day one and is expected to remain off until the work is completed on day three. The cold water supply will not be affected in occupied accommodation.
• Work will take place between 8.30am – 5.30pm (Monday to Friday) and will be noisy at times. The project webpages list alternative study spaces if required.

The Net Zero Energy Project contractor, Vital Energi, will be working on the connection of the Grizedale College residential buildings to the campus District Heat Network. This will involve internal and external works at the following houses.

• Vital Energi contractors will be accessing the communal stairwells but won't need access to any student flats.
